How To Avoid Mistakes When Displaying Art In Your Apartment

Hanging artwork is a wonderful way to liven up and personalize your apartment. Here are several mistakes you should try to avoid when adding art to your home.

Pick The Right Artwork For Your Space

You shouldn't hang up a piece of artwork simply because you have it lying around. You should always find artwork that will add to a room's decor rather than detract from it. You should also make sure the art you're displaying is the right size for the room you're hanging it in. If you hang a very small piece of art on your wall, everything in the room will look out of proportion.

Art can be a big investment, which is why you should take the time to find art that will genuinely improve the look of a room. If you don't have a big budget for art, you should consider rotating your artwork from one room of the apartment to another. Art can dramatically enhance your decor, but displaying the wrong art could have the opposite effect.

Consider A Gallery Wall

If the artwork you want to hang isn't the appropriate size for a room, you can create the look of a larger painting by hanging several pieces of artwork together. This is known as a gallery wall. Gallery walls are trending right now and are also a wonderful way to display large amounts of artwork in the same place.

Hang Your Art At The Right Height

You should try to create a cohesive look when you're hanging artwork. You'll want to strike the right balance, which means you'll want to make sure your artwork is hung at the right height. You won't want to hang your artwork far above your furniture, nor will you want it to be too close to your furnishings.

As a rule of thumb, you should hang your artwork approximately 60 inches above your floor. If you're hanging a piece of artwork that is very wide, you may want to hang it a little bit higher than that. Take the time to find the right height before you secure your artwork in place.

Use Velcro

You may want to consider using velcro when hanging artwork. This will make it easy for you to move one piece of artwork and swap it out for something else. It will also allow you to adjust the height of the artwork if necessary.

Always Hang Your Art Securely

One of the most serious mistakes you can make when hanging a piece of art is not hanging it securely. If your artwork detaches from the wall and hits the ground, you could wind up damaging both the artwork and the frame that it's contained in.

After you hang a piece of art, take a few minutes to ensure that it's securely in place. Whether you're using velcro or attaching your art to your walls in another way, you'll want to make sure that your art will stay where you want it to be.

Follow this advice, and you should be able to display your artwork without any problems. You'll be able to use art to make your apartment feel more like your home.
